Privacy Policy

This page explains, in plain terms, what Limit Calculator does and does not do with the information you type into its calculators. The short version: every calculation runs in your own browser, nothing you type into a function field is sent to a server, and the only data this site collects is anonymous and does not identify you.

What the calculators do with your input

The limit calculator, the L'Hopital's rule calculator, and the multivariable limit calculator all run entirely as JavaScript in your browser. When you type a function, a target value, or an approach point into a field, that expression is parsed and evaluated immediately by code running on your own device to compute a result. It is never transmitted to this site's servers, logged, or stored anywhere outside your browser.

Your entries are saved to your browser's local storage so that the fields are still filled in if you refresh the page or come back later. Local storage is a standard browser feature, similar to a cookie but not sent over the network with every request; it stays on your device until you clear it, either through your browser's settings or by using the Reset link on the calculator itself, which clears that calculator's saved values immediately.

The feedback button

Each calculator has a small "was this tool helpful" feedback control. Clicking a thumbs-up or thumbs-down sends a single anonymous signal to this site's server: which tool you rated, and whether you clicked up or down. No function, target value, or anything else you entered into a calculator is included in that signal, and no cookie, IP address, or device fingerprint is stored alongside it. A flag is saved in your browser's local storage afterward so you are not asked to vote again on a later visit; that flag never leaves your device.

If you use the "Give feedback" link instead, it opens a small text form (or your own email application, as a fallback) so you can describe what was missing. Anything you choose to write and send is sent anonymously, without your email address, IP address, or any account identifier attached.

Anonymous engagement measurement

This site also measures, anonymously, whether a visit to a calculator page looks like it ended in a completed calculation or in a quick exit (a strong signal that the tool wasn't what the visitor needed and they went back to search again). Four simple, non-identifying signals are batched into a single request when you leave a page: how long it took before your first interaction with the page, whether you actually ran a calculation (a result was shown), whether you left within 10 seconds without any interaction at all, and roughly how long you stayed, bucketed into coarse ranges (0-10 seconds, 10-30 seconds, 30-120 seconds, or over 2 minutes). There is no session identifier, no cookie, and no cross-visit tracking: each page visit is measured entirely on its own, and the measurement data disappears from your browser's memory the moment you close the tab.

Analytics and advertising

If this site uses a web analytics service, it is a privacy-focused, cookieless option that reports only aggregate figures such as total visits, popular pages, and country-level location: it does not track individuals across visits or across other websites, and does not use cookies to do so. If this site displays advertising, the advertising network may use its own cookies or similar technology, governed by that network's own privacy policy rather than this one; this site does not share your calculator inputs with any advertiser under any circumstances, because those inputs never reach this site's server in the first place.

What this site does not do

This site does not require an account, a sign-up, or a login for any calculator. It does not ask for your name, your school, your email address, or any other personal information to use any tool. It does not sell data, because it does not collect the kind of data that would be sellable in the first place: the functions and values you enter stay in your browser, not on a server.

Children's privacy

This site is a general-audience reference tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since the calculators do not ask for a name, email address, or any other identifying information, and calculator inputs never leave your browser, there is no personal information collected from any user, regardless of age, beyond the anonymous, non-identifying signals described above.

Changes to this policy

If the way this site handles data changes, for example by adding a new feature that requires sending information to a server, this page will be updated to describe it accurately before that feature goes live. Checking back here periodically is the way to stay current, since no separate notification list exists.
